US Gov Manual · Census · Federal Register

Witenai answers a question no single source does: what governmental entities exist in the United States, all of them, in one buildable dataset. Two cross-referenced layers, the governments themselves and the elected and appointed positions inside them, regenerate from primary sources with every row traceable to where it came from.

Highlights

  • 93,590 governments: federal, state, tribal, territorial, and local
  • 15,886 offices and roles in a separate cross-referenced layer
  • Built from the US Government Manual, Census of Governments, Federal Register, USAspending, and Wikidata
  • Documents its own limits: the ~500,000-office long tail of local positions is the mapped next phase
